AI Home Security Cameras

What Does “AI-Powered” Mean in Home Security Cameras?

Instead of simply recording everything, AI-powered cameras are designed to intelligently analyze video footage in real-time. This allows them to distinguish between different objects and events, reducing false alarms and focusing on what’s important. Common AI features include:

  • Person/Vehicle Detection: Differentiates between people, cars, animals, and other objects. This is the most common AI feature. Instead of being alerted by a tree branch moving in the wind, you’ll only get notified when a person is detected.
  • Facial Recognition: Some cameras can recognize known faces (family members, regular visitors) and trigger specific actions or alerts. This raises privacy concerns and is less common for general home security.
  • Object Detection: Can be trained to recognize specific objects besides people and vehicles, such as packages left on your porch.
  • Perimeter Protection/Line Crossing Detection: Detects when someone crosses a virtual line you’ve drawn in the camera’s field of view or enters a defined area. This is useful for securing driveways, yards, or restricted zones.
  • Motion Detection 2.0 (A More Advanced Form): Uses AI to filter out irrelevant movements, improving the accuracy of motion detection.

Hikvision AI-Powered Home Security Cameras

  • Overview: Hikvision is one of the world’s largest video surveillance equipment manufacturers. They offer a wide range of AI-powered cameras suitable for home and business use. Their strength lies in a comprehensive product portfolio, generally reliable performance, and competitive pricing.

    • Deep Learning Algorithms: Hikvision uses deep learning to improve the accuracy of its AI features over time. As the camera “sees” more, it becomes better at distinguishing objects.
    • Facial Recognition (in select models): Available in some higher-end models, though it’s essential to consider the privacy implications.
    • Line Crossing and Intrusion Detection: Allows you to set virtual boundaries and receive alerts when they are crossed.
    • Smart Event Filtering: Allows you to filter recordings based on specific events (e.g., show me only the recordings where a person was detected).
    • High Resolution: Hikvision cameras typically come in a variety of resolutions, usually 4MP, 8MP, and 4K.
  • Pros:
    • Wide Variety of Models: You can find a Hikvision camera to fit almost any need and budget.

Hikvision releases new ColorVu offerings now with 4K and varifocal options

Hikvision releases new ColorVu offerings now with 4K and varifocal options

October 15, 2020 – Hikvision, an IoT solution provider with video as its core competency, released new ColorVu offerings for more vivid 24/7 colorful imaging, and has first included 4K and varifocal cameras in the full-color range.

In video security, color-related information is crucial to identifying details of events, especially at night. Conventional cameras with infrared lighting only provide black-and-white images for night monitoring. As a result, people, vehicles, or other important objects can easily be blurry and blend into the background, which makes it difficult to distinguish critical elements. Hikvision ColorVu technology resolves this common challenge faced by many security camera users, enabling cameras to produce colorful videos even in extremely dim environments.

“Since 2018 when we introduced the first generation of ColorVu cameras to the market, they have been one of our best-selling products. The demand for low-light cameras continues to increase in the security industry, and we’re glad to see that our new ColorVu offerings can bring even more vivid imaging experience to our customers,” said Frank Zhang, President of the International Product and Solution Center at Hikvision.

Enriched ColorVu options with 4K and varifocal cameras

The newly released ColorVu cameras offer enriched options to the market with having covered both Turbo HD  (DF8T series/DF3T series/DF0T series) and Network products. The enriched ColorVu series can satisfy a multitude of customer needs, from high-performance products to budget-friendly choices and smart solutions.

Hikvision has now included 4K ColorVu cameras in its product range, which brings color imaging to ultra-high-definition levels day and night. With better image quality and richer detail, 4K ColorVu cameras can be applied across an even wider range of scenarios including stadiums, airports, harbors, and parking lots, where clear and high-resolution images are necessary.

In addition, Hikvision has also added varifocal cameras (the DF8T-Z series) to the new ColorVu models to create 24/7 color imaging in all focal lengths. With 2.8 – 12 mm motorized lenses, ColorVu varifocal cameras will allow users to zoom in on colorful images at night.
