Common Alarm Faults We Fix

Most alarm problems fall into one of these six categories. We diagnose the cause on-site and fix it the same day where possible.

⚠

Tamper Warnings

🔔

False Alarms

Activating with no intruder. Often caused by faulty PIRs, insects, draughts, or pet-immunity miscalibration.

📱

App Disconnection

Texecom Connect, Pyronix HomeControl+, Visonic or Risco app showing offline. Usually a communicator, SIM or router issue.

🚨

Sounder & Siren Faults

External siren chirping, strobe stuck on, or no sound on activation. Often a bell-box battery or wiring fault.

📡

Communication Failure

Lost signal to monitoring centre, 4G/IP comms fault, or PSTN dialler offline. We re-test & re-route.

Frequently Asked Questions

Burglar Alarm Service FAQs

How much does a burglar alarm service cost in London?
Our pricing starts at £120 + VAT for a Diagnostic Visit. The most popular package is our Service from £120 + VAT, which includes a battery health check, full system walktest, app re-pairing and a written service report. Replacement batteries are charged separately. System Takeovers for legacy or abandoned installs start from £180 + VAT, plus parts. Prices are plus VAT, and we confirm costs before any work.
Can you service an alarm system that wasn’t installed by SatFocus?
Yes, absolutely. Most of our service work is on systems fitted by other companies, often years ago. We work on Texecom, Pyronix, Eaton (Scantronic, Menvier), Visonic, Ajax, Risco, Honeywell Galaxy and Orisec. Some panels are locked by the original installer or tied to a monitoring contract, so tell us your panel make and model when you call and we’ll confirm we can take it over before booking.
How often should a burglar alarm be serviced?
We recommend a service at least once a year, and many home insurers expect it. Systems connected to a monitoring centre usually need two visits a year. Our Service package from £120 + VAT covers an annual visit, and you get a written service report and completion certificate to keep with your insurance documents.
My alarm is beeping every 30 seconds — what’s wrong?
Most likely a low battery warning — either the panel’s 12V 7Ah standby battery (typically lasts 3–5 years) or a wireless sensor’s lithium battery. The keypad will usually display a code or fault number identifying the affected device. Tell us the panel make/model and the displayed code when you call — we’ll often diagnose it remotely and arrive with the right replacement battery.
Can you upgrade my old wired alarm to app control?
In most cases, yes — without replacing the panel. Most Texecom, Pyronix, Eaton, Visonic and Risco panels from the last 10–15 years accept the manufacturer’s own IP or 4G communicator (SmartCom on Texecom). This gives you arm/disarm, event history and notifications from your phone without rewiring the sensors. Priced after a free survey, with a written quote before any work starts. See our Alarm Upgrade page for details.
Do you replace alarm batteries?
Yes. We replace panel standby batteries (12V 7Ah typically), external sounder batteries (some bell boxes have backup batteries), and wireless sensor batteries (lithium AA or CR123A depending on device). Batteries are charged at cost on top of the visit, and we confirm the price before fitting.
What if my alarm panel is too old to repair?
Some panels manufactured before ~2008 (e.g. Scantronic 9651/9751, older Texecom Premier non-Elite, some Aritech CD models) are no longer supported by the manufacturer and parts may be unavailable. In these cases, we’ll quote an upgrade rather than a repair. We can typically reuse your existing wiring, sensors, and sounder, replacing only the panel and keypad — see our alarm upgrade page for what is included. It is priced after a free survey and usually comes in well below the cost of a full new installation.
Do you offer same-day or emergency callouts?
Yes. Same-day callouts are available across London & Home Counties, subject to engineer availability. Emergency response (within 4 hours) is typically £180–£250 + VAT for the visit. For non-emergency jobs, we usually attend within 24–48 hours of your call. Out-of-hours and weekend callouts are quoted on request.
