Alarm design for Enfield properties

Enfield runs from inner-suburban N13 and N18 out to the green belt beyond Enfield Town, so the housing shifts quickly. Terraces in Edmonton and Palmers Green, 1930s semis across Southgate and Bush Hill Park, detached homes in Hadley Wood and Grange Park, and newer flats near Ponders End each leave different ways in. The detector layout follows those entry points rather than a standard kit list.

Terraces

Edwardian terraces in Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill

Long, narrow houses with a front door, a back or garden door and often a side-return extension. Many have been knocked through downstairs, which changes how motion detectors should be angled. In a lived-in home we fit a wireless system, so nothing has to be chased into old plaster and the decoration stays as it is.

  • Contacts on the front door and the rear or side-return doors
  • A motion detector in each ground-floor room, including knocked-through spaces
  • Any bedroom above a flat-roofed kitchen extension covered too
1930s semis

Interwar semis in Southgate, Oakwood and Bush Hill Park

Bay-fronted semis with side passages, garages and, very often, a rear extension added later. The side passage can be reached out of sight, so side doors and garage connecting doors get their own contacts. Where a semi is being extended or fully refurbished, a wired system is cabled at first fix and completed at second fix.

Larger homes

Detached houses in Grange Park and Hadley Wood

Bigger footprints mean more doors, more glazing and frequently a garden room or detached garage. Wireless range extenders keep those buildings on the same system as the house. For higher protection we add shock sensors to reachable ground-floor windows and patio doors, so an attempt is picked up before anyone gets inside.

  • Garden rooms and garages linked by a wireless range extender
  • Shock sensors on patio doors and accessible ground-floor windows
  • Outdoor detectors where a long rear garden is unlit
Flats & units

Flats in Edmonton and Ponders End, units in Brimsdown

Purpose-built and converted flats suit a compact wireless kit fitted inside the flat; anything on the outside of the block needs the freeholder or managing agent to agree first. Trade units in the Brimsdown industrial area usually need roller-shutter contacts, detection that covers wide open floors and separate user codes for staff.

Enfield Council manages a number of conservation areas, among them Enfield Town and Winchmore Hill Green, and if your home is listed, listed building consent may be needed before anything is fixed to it.

FAQs

Burglar alarms in Enfield: your questions answered

Can you alarm a garden office or summerhouse at the end of an Enfield garden?

Usually, yes. Many Enfield gardens are long enough that the panel's signal will not comfortably reach the far end, so we add a wireless range extender in the house or in the outbuilding itself. The garden room then gets its own door contact and motion detector, and it can be armed separately, so locking up the office does not mean arming the whole house.

My Palmers Green house has original stained glass in the front door. Will a contact damage it?

No. The contact is fixed to the door frame and the door edge, never to the glass. On a period door we use a slim contact placed where it is hidden once the door is shut. If you also want early warning of the door being forced, a shock sensor can go on the timber frame rather than on the leaded panel.

We bought a semi in Bush Hill Park with an old alarm already in it. Do we need to rip it out?

Not usually. If the existing cabling and detectors test sound, we keep them and replace the control panel and keypad, giving you a modern system with phone alerts without disturbing the decoration. Anything faulty or too old to be reliable is swapped, and we explain what is staying and what is changing before any work starts.

How do you protect a back bedroom above a flat-roofed kitchen extension in Southgate?

A flat roof gives an easy step up to a first-floor window, which is common on extended semis in Southgate and Winchmore Hill. We fit a contact on that window and a motion detector in the room. At night the window contact can stay armed while the detector is left off, so the room is still protected while someone sleeps in it.

How much does a burglar alarm cost in Enfield?

A wireless Ajax alarm starts from £995 including VAT, a wired or hybrid system from £1,995 including VAT, and upgrading an old panel while keeping your existing wired sensors from £495 + VAT. Your exact price depends on the number of doors, windows and rooms, and is fixed in writing after a free survey.

Wired or wireless — which is right for my home?

If your home is finished and lived in, wireless is usually best: no chasing walls, no redecorating, and most homes are done in a day. If you are renovating, a wired system run at first fix before plastering is the better long-term choice, installed at second fix once decorating is done.

Can you take over or upgrade my existing alarm?

Usually, yes — including systems we did not install. Where the existing wiring and detectors prove sound we keep them and replace the panel and keypad, which costs far less than a new system and can add smartphone control.

What guarantee do I get?

A 12-month guarantee on our installation work, alongside the manufacturer's warranty on the equipment we supply. You also receive a completion certificate for your records.
