Alarm design for Ealing properties

Ealing was built up in layers. The streets around Ealing Broadway and Ealing Common have substantial Victorian and Edwardian houses, many now flats. Acton, West Ealing and Hanwell have long runs of terraces, while Greenford, Perivale and Northolt are mostly 1930s semis built as London spread west between the wars. Southall mixes terraces with larger, extended family homes.

Edwardian houses

Large period houses near Ealing Broadway, Ealing Common and Pitshanger

Three-storey Edwardian houses often have a side entrance, a cellar and a rear extension with roof lights. Wireless detectors cover every ground-floor room without disturbing original features, contacts go on each external door and the cellar door, and a first-floor room above a flat-roofed extension is covered too.

  • Shock sensors on bay and sash windows for earlier warning
  • Cellar access treated as a separate entry point
  • No chasing of period plaster or cornices
Terraces

Terraces in Acton, West Ealing and Hanwell

Many of these homes have had loft conversions and side-return extensions with large glazed doors. Those rear doors get contacts, the extension gets a motion detector, and the front door and hall are covered as standard. Where the house is mid-renovation, the alarm is cabled at first fix and finished at second fix.

1930s semis

Interwar semis in Greenford, Perivale and Northolt

Semis here usually have a side gate, a garage and a rear garden that backs onto others or onto parkland. We cover the front, back and garage doors, every ground-floor room, and any window reachable from a flat roof. Pet-tolerant detectors are used where a dog or cat has the run of the house.

  • Garage and side door set up as their own area
  • Older wired alarms often taken over rather than ripped out
  • App alerts to everyone in the household
Shops & flats

Flats and shops along Southall Broadway and Acton High Street

Flats above shops often share a street-level entrance or reach their front door from a rear yard or stair. The alarm covers the flat's own door, any rear access and the main rooms, with nothing external fixed without the freeholder's consent. The shop beneath can have its own separate system.

Ealing has many conservation areas, including the Brentham Garden Suburb, where Article 4 directions mean even small changes to the front of a house can need planning permission.

FAQs

Burglar alarms in Ealing: your questions answered

Our Edwardian house near Ealing Common has a cellar. Should that be on the alarm?

If the cellar has its own door or a window to the outside, yes. We put a contact on that access and a detector in the cellar, or on the stairs leading up into the house. Cellars can be damp, so the space is checked at the survey and equipment positioned where it stays dry.

We're about to start a side-return extension in Acton. Is now the time to plan the alarm?

Yes. If walls are being opened and replastered, a wired alarm can be cabled at first fix, before plastering, and finished at second fix when decorating is complete. If only the extension is being built, a hybrid panel lets you wire the new part and use wireless detectors in the rooms that are already finished.

Can the alarm in our Greenford semi cover the garage and the side passage?

The garage can, with contacts on its main and side doors and a detector inside, set as its own area so it can be armed separately. The side passage can be watched by an outdoor motion detector, which gives early warning before anyone reaches the back of the house. Signal strength at both is checked during the survey.

I live in Brentham Garden Suburb. Can I have an external siren?

Possibly, but check first. Brentham is a conservation area with extra planning controls on front elevations, so a siren on the front may need council consent. A siren on a side or rear wall may be simpler, and an internal siren with phone alerts needs no permission at all. Positions are discussed at the survey.

How much does a burglar alarm cost in Ealing?

A wireless Ajax alarm starts from £995 including VAT, a wired or hybrid system from £1,995 including VAT, and upgrading an old panel while keeping your existing wired sensors from £495 + VAT. Your exact price depends on the number of doors, windows and rooms, and is fixed in writing after a free survey.

Wired or wireless — which is right for my home?

If your home is finished and lived in, wireless is usually best: no chasing walls, no redecorating, and most homes are done in a day. If you are renovating, a wired system run at first fix before plastering is the better long-term choice, installed at second fix once decorating is done.

Can you take over or upgrade my existing alarm?

Usually, yes — including systems we did not install. Where the existing wiring and detectors prove sound we keep them and replace the panel and keypad, which costs far less than a new system and can add smartphone control.

What guarantee do I get?

A 12-month guarantee on our installation work, alongside the manufacturer's warranty on the equipment we supply. You also receive a completion certificate for your records.
